SEND and Inclusion

Effecitive Inclusion in Action at ABC Learning Limited

At ABC Learning Limited inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we recognise that every child is unique with individual strengths, interests and needs. We are committed to ensuring that all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are supported to thrive in our nurturing and enabling environment.

Our Group SENDCo is an experienced Early Years teacher. She works closely with team leaders to identify barriers to learning, offer appropriate targeted intervention, model new approaches and support them with monitoring children before making a referral. When the time comes, our SENDCo works alongside families to write Educational, Health and Care Plans for children and guides them through their transition to school.

Recent inspections by Ofsted (2025) highlight the strength of our curriculum, the positive relationships between staff and children and the thoughtful adaptations made to meet individual learning needs. We continue to build on this strong foundation through reflective practice and ongoing professional development. We work closely with external professionals to support our children (this can take the form of Speech and Language referrals, seeking guidance and support from EMTAS (Ethnic Minority Traveller Achievement Service) or seeking guidance from charities such as ERIC (The Children's Bowel and Bladder Charity).

Our Practical Approach to SEND & Inclusion

We believe inclusion is not simply a policy it is intrinsic to our daily practice.

Early Intervention & Targeted Support

  • Careful observation and assessment to identify emerging needs as early as possible.

  • Personalised support plans using a graduated approach: assess, plan, do, review.

  • Close partnership with parents, carers and external professionals.

Removing Barriers to Learning

We are proactive in identifying and reducing barriers that may affect a child’s access to learning. This includes:

  • Adapting activities, routines and environments to ensure accessibility.

  • Differentiating teaching strategies to match learning styles and developmental stages.

  • Providing visual timetables, now-and-next boards and communication prompts.

  • Offering flexible transitions and personalised settling-in arrangements.

  • Ensuring resources reflect diverse abilities, cultures and family backgrounds.

Our goal is to ensure that every child can participate fully, build confidence and experience success.

Enabling Environments & Sensory Support

We provide thoughtfully designed spaces that support regulation, wellbeing and engagement:

  • Sensory Experiences:
Daily access to sensory play including textured materials, water, sand, malleable play, light exploration, sound exploration and calming sensory baskets. These experiences support sensory processing, language development and emotional regulation.

  • Quiet & Safe Spaces:
Calm, low-stimulation areas where children can rest, regulate or take time away when needed. These spaces support self-regulation and emotional wellbeing.

  • Communication-Friendly Practice:
Visual cues, gesture, modelling language, small group work and storytelling sessions that promote communication for all learners.

Speech, Language & Specialist Support

Strong communication skills underpin all learning. We:

  • Work closely with Speech and Language Therapists where appropriate.

  • Implement recommended programmes and targeted interventions within daily routines.

  • Use language-rich interactions, sustained shared thinking and structured small-group work to promote vocabulary, listening and understanding.

  • Provide additional adult support where needed to scaffold communication and social interaction.

When appropriate, we collaborate with local authority SEND teams, health visitors and other specialists to ensure coordinated, consistent support.

Partnership with Families

Parents and carers are central to our inclusive approach. Through regular meetings, shared planning, progress reviews and open communication, we ensure families are fully involved in decisions about their child’s support. We value parental insight and work together to promote continuity between home and nursery.

Our Commitment

At ABC Learning Limited, inclusion means:

  • Valuing every child as an individual.

  • Celebrating diversity.

  • Removing barriers before they limit opportunity.

  • Creating a safe, respectful and aspirational environment.

  • Ensuring all children leave us confident, capable and ready for their next stage of learning.

We are proud of our inclusive culture and remain committed to continually strengthening our SEND practice so that every child can flourish.
